Shalden Shooting School was started by Rod Brammer in the village of Shalden in Hampshire when one of Rod’s friends said “Could you teach me to shoot like you do?” Rod analysed how he shot and did it. One thing led to another, and soon Rod was teaching people to shoot for a living.
Rod soon became acknowledged by other coaches and has since been reviewed in magazines as the best coach in the country.
In 1987 the school moved to its current location in Devon but kept its already well known name. The Shooting School is in a deep valley on the Devon/Somerset border just to the south of Exmoor.
Rod’s son Matt was 5 years old when the shooting school started, so he grew up around clay shooting and coaching. As he got older he started operating the traps, then coached part time and later full time. Rod and Matt are now the 2 full time coaches at the school but can also call on 2 extra part time coaches for large groups.
We try to keep the atmosphere and our customers as relaxed as possible, we feel people shoot better this way. For this reason all of the shooting is by booking only so time can be allowed before and after the lesson for cups of tea and putting the world to rights.
The landscape at the shooting school allows for almost any target to be set up. We have targets to suit everyone from complete beginners to top level clay shooters. We can also simulate most types of game shooting, in fact if we haven’t got a particular target you want we will do our best to set it up for you.
We shoot Monday to Saturday, from 10.00 to 17.00 when daylight allows and 10.00 to 16.00 during the Winter. The telephone is answered whenever we are in the gunroom (always 08.30-10.00) but please leave a message if you get the answerphone and we will call you back. |
